A Bit of Soap and Water….what the heck does that mean?
I’m a woman with many hats….I’m a wife, a mom, a house cleaner, laundry do-er, vomit cleaner-upper, and a healthcare professional….in my world I use a lot of soap! And it’s more effective than hand sanitizer any day according to the medical journal studies anyway! I also heard the saying, “a little bit of soap and water never hurt anybody-now go wash your hands!” from my grandmother a lot! Hence the “soap,” its my ordinary… my everyday life.
But more than all that, when I accepted Jesus I became a woman of God, a woman chasing after Him, a woman who more than anything wants to be in His perfect will.
Water is mentioned 722 times in the bible and is a significant symbol of God and Jesus Christ. He is the water of life.
Revelations 22:17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.
In Isaiah the water is a simile for the knowledge of God.
Isaiah 55:10-11 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
In Hosea the rains are a sign of the presence of God.
Hosea 6:3 Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.
The Bible speaks of water for deliverance and rescue as Moses parted the sea for the Israelites. It speaks of blessings and healing, purification and cleansing.
All that = the “water” part of the title, the extraordinary part of my life, because of Him.
Interestingly enough after I decided on this title, I discovered that Jesus is actually described as “soap” in the scriptures.
Malachi 3:1-3 (NIV)
3 “I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty.
2 But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a fuller’s soap. 3 He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the Lord will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness.
Fuller’s soap is the soap used in ancient times to prepare wool for cloth making. It would make the wool bright white in preparation. That sounds familiar…kind of like a lamb who sacrificed Himself to make me spotless before God. This solidified the title of this blog for me….
This blog is a little bit of me and a whole lot of Him! I will always exalt His name and point you in His direction. I will not pretend to have all the answers and I will try not to offend although that comes with the territory, I know! But I will promise to always be real, no fake religion, pomp and circumstance here. It’s just about one woman chasing after God and this incredible journey I’m on…
